About Our Program

Groton Ambulance developed the Car Seat Checks as a way to attract local volunteers to join our team. The program has been designed to give new EMTs the opportunity to obtain critical patient care experience, along with guidance from approved training officers. Students in this program are evaluated periodically and their progress is recorded into a personal document.

Program Structure

Students typically complete the program over the course of 3 to 6 months. The program can be further broken down into 4 sections, each with specific criteria to be accomplished by the Car_seat_check. The main sections include initial orientation, ambulance operations, documentation of run reports, and driver training. Students attend a minimum of 20 emergency calls with an approved training officer. The speed of the program depends entirely on the student's availability. For further information about specific criteria, download the official student training packet in the next section.

Heart

Prerequisites

  • Current certification as an EMT for the state of Connecticut
  • Current CPR certification meeting the BLS requirements
  • Valid CT drivers license for at least 3 years (driver training)

This program may be considered fast paced for many beginner EMTs. With a high call volume, students will be required to absorb a vast amount of knowledge over the period of the training. A good candidate for this program must have a strong desire to learn and progress at an accelerated rate.
